Many people consider single beds to be suitable for children’s rooms. While certainly a single bed provides enough room for a child, they are designed for adults. There are many reasons to consider buying a single bed. One reason is they take up less space than larger beds. For single young adults living in a small apartment, a single bed can be a space saver. Since they are less expensive than larger beds, they can be a money saver as well.
While full and queen size beds are the most popular choices for couples, some couples have sleeping issues that may best be resolved with the use of two single beds. If one partner is especially restless, or a very light sleeper, a two single beds may allow both partners to get a better night’s sleep. This can be a real issue with older couples when one has a chronic illness or other condition that can interfere with the other partner’s rest. The television sitcoms of the 1950s always featured two single beds in master bedrooms, but that had less to do with sleeping comfort and more to do with modesty.
Even couples sleeping in a king sized bed can be disturbed by their partner. A king sized bed is the same size as two twin beds, but has a single large mattress. With many mattresses motion can be transferred and a person sleeping in the bed with another can be awakened.
Older people living alone may prefer a single bed for both its space saving and money saving qualities. After retirement, many people chose to downsize their living quarters and larger beds may take up space which could be better utilized. Of course some people like a large sleeping area, and for them a single bed may not suit.
Tall people may believe a single bed is too short, but most single beds are the same length as other standard size mattresses. It is possible to get longer single mattresses for taller people. These long single beds are easy to find and may provide more comfort than larger mattresses which are still too short.
There are many reasons to consider a single bed. They aren’t just for children although many people think of them as children’s beds. They can provide sleeping comfort and other advantages for people of all ages.
